Greetings from Director

Welcome to the Tropical Renewable Energy Center (TREC) , Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia. On behalf of our research center, We are really honored by your interest and desire to find out more about our research program and product. It is my distinct honor to serve as Director and to work alongside committed faculty, researchers, students and staff at TREC to expand our contribution.

Tropical Renewable Energy Center (TREC) was established in Faculty of Engineering Universitas Indonesia in 2015. TREC originally consisted of seven clusters in the fields of renewable energy applications. By January 2019 it had been merged into four clusters to gain more collaborations between experts of each clusters.

TREC carried out the most advanced studies on topics about renewable energy applications in tropical regions and provided high quality research products by collaborating with scientists all over the world. TREC focused in research projects on the environment and energy issues, which are crucial for human beings in 21st century especially in Indonesia.

TREC will respond to present-day needs, work together with industry to create core technologies leading to the development of new industries, and through these efforts, will offer a world-class education environment. We will continue to work hard and drive forward the domestic and international collaborative activities in order to respond the social request and advance the contribution to society.

The potential of renewable energy in tropical countries (particularly in Indonesia) has unique characteristics. It is a challenge for researcher and academia to develop a suitable technical design prototype, policy strategy and business model in order to form a sustainable system.


Lifting up renewable energy role in sustainable development thru :
  • Applying science and technology to develop methods and design an efficient of renewable energy system
  • Encouraging intensive collaboration with government, policy makers, industries and research institutions at all levels and regions
  • Designing better prototypes, concepts and policies of renewable energy system
  • Promoting renewable energy applications in all sectors
