The Nanogrids Electricity Concept Called Dual Power

Dual Power Concept was discovered by Dr.-Ing Eko Adhi Setiawan and his team. He is an expert of Renewable Energy Integration Nanogrids System from Tropical Renewable Energy Center University of Indonesia.

Nanogrids is a nano electricity system with capacity from hundreds watt until five kilowatts that consist of power plants, such as solar cell, wind turbine, fuel cell, energy storage, and loads. In the reality, nanogrids system are installed as a house, office building, and micro industry.

Dual Power nangrids is a new concept from the utilization and operation of electricity power that produced by renewable energy and utility grid, so the load can use two powers in one system (direct current from renewable energy and alternating current from utility grid). Dual Power system has three using methods :

•  method : Alternating current from utility grid and direct current from renewable energy works separately to supply their own loads.
•  method : If the direct current from renewable energy are extinct, the alternating current from utility grid could supply the loads that previously supplied by the direct current.
•  method : If the alternating current from utility grid are extinct, the direct current from renewable energy could supply the loads that previously supplied by the alternating current

Those three operation methods can make the reliability of its electricity more guaranteed and efficient.

Why are we research about its topic?

Dual Power Nanogrids system are closely related with the latest research from Tropical Renewable Energy Center about DC-DC Converter (DCON) that already reached until 2500 watts, DCON can be used to supply the households stably, efficiently, and safely. However, there are some household that cannot use direct current yet, such as water pump, air conditioner, and refrigerator. Those households only can be supplied by alternating current because its still use an induction motor. Fortunately, a modern product that sold in market today will change into direct current gradually.

How is a reliability of Dual Power Nanogrids System?

Dual Power Nanogrids System alrealy installed since  February 2018 and used throughout 24 hours non stop. The households of its house can operate well, and absolutely reduce the monthly electricity bill up to 42%. The new concept of Dual Power Nanogrids System are expected to be implemented by the society.

Dual power components consist of :

3. Charge Controller
4. Battery (Energy Storage)
5. Control Panel
6. Utility Grid
